Ashwin decision to bid a goodbye to the game came as shock, it was sudden but when we look back to his illustrious career, it is full of heart winning moments. With 765 wickets, 537 of them in Test cricket, Ashwin finishes as one of the greatest modern-day bowlers. He finished as the second leading wicket-taker in Tests for India, behind Anil Kumble's tally of 619 wickets. A World Cup winner, Ashwin's towering achievements in Test cricket often overshadowed his brilliance in limited formats. He will be back in IPL playing for his team CSK as long as he can.
The clarity he provides information his game is rare to find out. His love for chess has a great impact on his strategic thinking with which he ruled the world over the years. "He offers a very different skill set to a lot of off-spinners as well. He uses the crease very differently to how a traditional off-spinner bowls. Over-spin, side-spin, can get really closer to the stumps, can use the crease, get wider. He has got carrom balls and a lot of different tricks. You just have to be really wary of all the different threats that he poses, make sure that you really got the skils and preparation to combat that," Joe Root told Sky Sports, describing the package that Ashwin was.
