Xtra Time Web Desk: Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has officially retired from all formats of cricket after playing his final Ranji Trophy group-stage match on February 1. One of India's finest red-ball wicketkeepers, Saha shared an emotional note on social media, expressing gratitude towards his family, teams, and mentors who supported him throughout his 28-year career.

Saha acknowledged that representing his country, state, district, clubs, university, and school had been the greatest honor of his life. Though he had announced his decision to retire at the start of the season, the moment became official with Bengal's last group-stage game.

Having played 40 Test matches for India, Saha was widely regarded as the country’s best wicketkeeper. However, his international career never reached great heights due to the dominance of MS Dhoni and later the rise of Rishabh Pant. After Dhoni's Test retirement, Saha had a brief stint as India’s first-choice keeper before the team management transitioned to Pant.

Saha also had memorable moments in the Indian Premier League (IPL), most notably scoring a century in the 2014 final for Kings XI Punjab. Despite his brilliant knock, Punjab couldn't clinch the title. In the latter part of his career, he played for Gujarat Titans, scoring 371 runs in IPL 2023.

In his heartfelt farewell note, Saha thanked his family, childhood coach Jayanta Bhowmick, the BCCI, the Cricket Association of Bengal, Tripura Cricket Association, and all the IPL teams he represented. He also extended his gratitude to support staff, fans, critics, and journalists for shaping his journey.

Saha leaves behind a legacy of resilience and dedication, concluding a remarkable career that spanned nearly three decades.
