Paris Paralympics 2024: India to showcase talent in 12 different sports in the mega event
Xtra Time Web Desk: India is set to broaden its Paralympic horizons with participation in three new sports at the upcoming Paris Games: para cycling, para rowing, and blind judo. This expansion will bring India's representation to 12 sports, highlighting the country's growing diversity and talent in the Paralympic arena. The announcement was made by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) on Wednesday.
Meet India's New Para-Athletes
Arshad Shaikh from Andhra Pradesh will make his Paralympic debut in para cycling. Shaikh earned his spot in Paris by winning a silver medal in the men's elite individual time trial C2 at the Asian Road Para Cycling Championships. He further showcased his prowess with a gold medal in the C2 15km scratch final at the Asian Track Cycling Championships.

Kongannapalle Narayana, a former Indian Army soldier from Andhra Pradesh, will compete in para rowing. Despite losing his left leg below the knee in a landmine blast, Narayana has demonstrated remarkable resilience. He won a silver medal in the PR3 mixed doubles sculls at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.
Kokila Kaushik, hailing from Haryana, will represent India in blind judo. Kaushik secured her Paralympic berth with a bronze medal in the women's 48-kg J2 event at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou. She also won silver at the 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships.

PCI President Devendra Jhajharia praised the inclusion of these sports, noting, "The addition of three new sports to our Paralympic roster highlights the increasing depth and talent within our Paralympic community."
