Xtra Time Web Desk:Paris Olympics 2024 silver medallist Neeraj Chopra has flown to Germany to seek expert medical advice for a persistent groin injury that has troubled him for over a year. The double Olympic medallist will spend approximately a month in Germany, where he will decide on the necessity of surgery, which he has been postponing to focus on his competitive commitments.

Neeraj’s groin issues, attributed to a hernia, have significantly affected his performance, including at the Paris Games, where he secured silver with a best throw of 89.45m—his second-best career effort.

The injury limited him to just one legal throw in the final, as Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem claimed gold with an Olympic record of 92.97m.Ahead of the Paris Olympics, Neeraj trained briefly in Germany, despite battling the groin injury that first surfaced during the World Championships in 2022.

His medical consultations in Germany will also help determine his participation in upcoming major events, including the Diamond League series.Manisha Malhotra, head of sports excellence and scouting at JSW Sports, revealed that Neeraj may require minor surgery to resolve the issue. Despite the setback, experts are optimistic about a swift recovery.

However, Neeraj’s support team could see changes, with biomechanics expert Dr. Klaus Bartonietz possibly stepping back from year-round duties.
