Xtra Time Web Desk: In a surprising turn of events at the Paris Olympics, Indian wrestler Antim Panghal has been sent back to India following a serious disciplinary breach. Panghal, who competed in the 53kg category, exited the Games Village immediately after her first-round loss to Turkish wrestler Zeynep Yetgil on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that the 19-year-old from Haryana left the Village to stay with her coach and sister at a nearby hotel. Allegedly, Panghal's sister attempted to enter the Village using Antim’s Olympic accreditation, leading to her detainment by security personnel. Authorities called the police, who subsequently informed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) of the incident.

In response, the IOA has canceled Panghal’s accreditation and is arranging for her and her support team—including her coach, physiotherapist, and sparring partner—to return to India. The return flight is scheduled for Thursday morning to expedite their departure from Paris.

The IOA has also been informed of Panghal’s prior absence from the Village on Tuesday, where she missed an evening training session. This incident and her subsequent loss with a score of 10-0 to World No. 12 Yetgil have raised concerns regarding her preparation and conduct.

The IOA has promised to discuss the matter with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to address the breach of discipline and its implications for the future.

The swift action by the IOA underscores their commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that such incidents do not tarnish the reputation of Indian athletes at international events.
