Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian athletes are encountering problems right from the start at the Paris Games Village, particularly with food. Athletes have complained that there is not enough food available. Boxer Amit Panghal has mentioned that he has been surviving on dal (lentils) and roti (flatbread).

Indian athletes are staying in 30 apartments within the Games Village. While athletes like PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have settled in, the problem lies with the food. There are five different areas in the Games Village where various types of food are available, including one section for Asian cuisine. However, according to badminton player Tanisha Crasto, the quantity of food is limited. She said, “I heard there was rajma (kidney beans) at night, but it was finished by the time we went there. We had to eat other food as a result.”

Boxer Amit Panghal has asked his support staff to provide Indian food. Since arriving in Paris, he has been eating only dal and roti. It is reported that the Games Village is so spread out that the food area is quite far from the athletes’ accommodations, leading to this issue.

The United States has found a solution to avoid food problems. The food area is very close to where they are staying in the Games Village. Similarly, athletes from China, Britain, and France also have their food areas nearby. However, this is not the case for Indian athletes.

Directly opposite the Indian team's accommodations in the Games Village are the Spanish athletes. India’s other neighbors are Italy and Serbia. The food preferences of athletes from Spain, Italy, or Serbia are different from those of Indian athletes, leading to the problem for the Indian contingent. However, they have not yet submitted a formal written complaint about this issue. India hopes that these initial problems will be resolved gradually as the competition progresses.
