Xtra Time Web Desk: India’s Manisha Ramadass has made history by winning a bronze medal in the women’s singles SU5 category at the Paris Paralympics 2024. On September 2, the 19-year-old badminton prodigy defeated Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren with a commanding performance, securing the match 21-12, 21-8.

Ramadass, hailing from Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, is the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic medal in badminton. Her journey to this landmark achievement began at the age of 10, inspired by her idol, Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal. Despite facing a significant setback with a knee injury in mid-2022, Ramadass demonstrated remarkable resilience, returning to competitive play after two months of rehabilitation.

Training up to eight hours a day, Ramadass has shown exceptional dedication to her sport. Her hard work has not gone unnoticed; she was honored as the Female Para Badminton Player of the Year for 2022 by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Among her many achievements, Ramadass’s gold medal win in the women’s SU5 singles at the 2022 World Championships in Tokyo stands out as a particularly memorable highlight.

Representing the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Ramadass trains under the guidance of coaches Umendra Rana and Sagar Chopda. With the support of her parents and a relentless drive to succeed, she continues to push the boundaries of para-badminton.
