Paralympics 2024: Indian Govt hands out big cash rewards to Paralympians
Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian government has announced substantial cash rewards for its Paralympic medallists in recognition of the country's historic performance at the Paris 2024 Games. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed these rewards during a felicitation ceremony on Tuesday, September 10.
Mandaviya confirmed that gold medallists will receive Rs 75 lakh, silver medallists Rs 50 lakh, and bronze medallists Rs 30 lakh. Athletes participating in mixed team events, like archer Sheetal Devi, will be awarded Rs 22.50 lakh. The sports minister also assured full support and improved facilities to help para-athletes aim for more success at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.

"India is making significant strides in the Paralympics and para sports. From just 4 medals in 2016, we have achieved 19 in Tokyo and 29 in Paris, finishing 18th overall," Mandaviya noted. "We are committed to providing all necessary resources to ensure more medals and golds in Los Angeles in 2028."
India's Paralympic team concluded their most successful campaign ever at the Paris Games, securing 29 medals—seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze. This impressive performance not only set a new record but also established India as a formidable force in para-sports.

India's final medal was clinched by Navdeep Singh, who initially won silver in the men's javelin throw F41 but was later awarded gold following a disqualification. The track-and-field athletes excelled, contributing 17 medals, including four golds. Notably, Preethi Pal made history as the first Indian woman to medal in athletics, with two bronze medals in the 100m and 200m sprints.
