Paralympics 2024: India rewrites history with 24 medals and counting
Xtra Time Web Desk: India has made history at the Paris Paralympics 2024 by surpassing all its previous medal tallies, achieving a remarkable 24 medals so far and still counting. This record-breaking achievement comes as Dharambir and Pranav Soorma added gold and silver to India’s haul in the Men’s Club Throw - F51 event.
Dharambir led the charge with a gold-winning throw of 34.92 meters, while Pranav Soorma secured silver with a throw of 34.59 meters. This brings India’s medal count to an unprecedented total of 24, marking a significant leap from the previous record of 19 medals set at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

India's impressive performance in Paris includes five gold, nine silver, and ten bronze medals. The track and field events have been particularly fruitful, with athletes like Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu contributing silvers and bronzes in high jump events. The addition of Dharambir and Soorma's achievements underscores India's growing strength in para sports.
In addition to the recent successes, Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil defended their gold medals in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 and men’s javelin throw F64 events, respectively. Nitesh Kumar also clinched gold in the men’s singles SL3 category in para badminton.
