Xtra Time Web Desk:In a poignant conclusion to a stellar career, Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has announced his retirement from the  IPL. Karthik's final appearance came during RCB's defeat to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator match on Wednesday. Following the match, Karthik received a guard of honour from his teammates, marking the end of his illustrious journey in the T20 league.
RCB commemorated Karthik's retirement with a heartfelt video that included an interview with his wife, Deepika Pallikal, and former RCB captain Virat Kohli. Kohli fondly recalled his first interaction with Karthik during the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa. Describing his initial impression of Karthik as "hyper-active" and "confused," Kohli highlighted the wicket-keeper's evolution into a wiser and more composed individual. The video also featured an emotional segment with Karthik's wife, Deepika Pallikal, who shared memorable moments from her husband's career and expressed her feelings about his retirement. Breaking down on camera, Deepika, a professional squash player, urged Karthik to spend more time with their family now that he is stepping away from the game.
"Outstanding talent, brilliant batter to watch," Kohli reflected, noting that his initial and current impressions of Karthik are largely unchanged, save for the latter's increased wisdom and calmness. Kohli also praised Karthik's honesty and courage, recounting an anecdote from 2022 when Karthik provided him with valuable insights during a challenging IPL season.
"Off the field, I have had some really nice and interesting conversations with him. He is wise, has great knowledge about a lot of things, not just cricket. I have thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with him," Kohli said. He added that Karthik's candid advice and willingness to speak his mind were qualities he deeply appreciated.
As Dinesh Karthik transitions away from the IPL, his contributions to Indian cricket will be remembered fondly by fans and peers alike.
