Xtra Time Web Desk: India's preparations for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, beginning September 19 in Chennai, have been hit by a significant setback. The T20 World Cup 2024 champions will return to Test cricket after a much deserving break of over a month, following their last white-ball series against Sri Lanka. This series will also mark their return to the longest format of the game after a six-month break since their last Test series against England.

However, the team has been disrupted by a hand injury suffered by India’s T20i Captain, Suryakumar Yadav. Known for his explosive performances in T20Is, Yadav, who has played only one Test to date, was hoping to make a return to Test cricket. He was a part of the Mumbai Team in Buchi Babu tournament and was also named in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which begins on September 5.

Earlier, Yadav had expressed his ambition to secure a permanent spot in the Indian Test team, having made his debut against Australia in February 2023. Suryakumar had expressed his determination to earn a permanent spot in the Test team. Speaking to the ICC, he said, 'There are a lot of people who have worked really hard to earn their place, and even I want to earn that spot again. I made my debut for India in Tests. After that, I got injured as well. There were a lot of people who got an opportunity and have done well too. They deserve that opportunity right now.' With uncertainty surrounding his availability, the injury poses a significant challenge for India’s Test squad as they prepare to face Bangladesh.
