Xtra Time Web Desk: India has strengthened its squad for the second Test against New Zealand, set to begin on October 24 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, by bringing in Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar. His inclusion follows an outstanding performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, where he has been a key player for Tamil Nadu.

Currently representing Tamil Nadu in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, Sundar impressed in the second-round match against Delhi, scoring 152 crucial runs and taking two wickets. His all-round skills provide India with a valuable option ahead of the pivotal Test against New Zealand.

However, the question remains: if Sundar makes it into the playing XI, who will he replace? Both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were ineffective in the first Test, making them potential candidates for a change. Sundar's ability to bat lower down the order and provide bowling depth might give him an edge, especially as India looks to bounce back from the defeat.

As India seeks to level the series, Sundar's inclusion could provide the much-needed balance, but the final selection will pose some challenging decisions for the team management.
