Xtra Time Web Desk: India's star batter Shubman Gill made a stunning comeback in the second innings of the opening Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, scoring a magnificent century (119 off 176 balls) on Day 3 after being dismissed for a duck in the first innings. Gill's determined knock not only lifted India to a formidable position but also cemented his status as one of India's premier Test batters.

Playing on a pitch that offered little assistance to the bowlers, Gill's innings showcased his flawless technique and unwavering resolve. His century, the 12th of his international career across formats, helped India set a daunting target of 515 for Bangladesh. Gill's remarkable performance saw him surpass Pakistan's Babar Azam, leading the list of batters with the most international centuries since 2022. Gill now stands at 12 centuries, while Babar has 11.

In response, Bangladesh was struggling at 158/4 by the end of Day 3, with R Ashwin leading India's bowling charge, taking three wickets. Gill's resilience at the crease was a major talking point of the match, as he exhibited composure and determination in tough conditions.

At the post-match press conference, Gill shared insights into his innings, explaining how batting at number 3 motivated him to dig deep. He also highlighted the special bond he shares with Pant, expressing how their time together on and off the field enhances their partnership.

"I have spent a lot of time with Rishabh on and off the field. It gives me pleasure to see him score a fifty or hundred after his comeback. He must be feeling really good," Gill remarked.

Gill also recalled a lighthearted moment during their partnership, mentioning how Pant repeatedly hit his bat after each shot. "I told Rishabh not to punch my bat because I was playing with an old one. He was hitting it so hard. I told him to calm down," Gill said with a smile.
