Xtra Time Web Desk: Star India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed strong support for young talents Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting they will become the team’s batting pillars in overseas conditions. Jaiswal finished as the highest run-scorer in the recent series against Bangladesh, accumulating 189 runs from four innings at an average of 47.25, including three fifties. Gill was not far behind, securing the second position with 164 runs at an impressive average of 54.66, highlighted by a brilliant century in the first Test.

In a post-match press conference, Ashwin praised their performances, referring to them as the future stars of Indian cricket. He noted, “Yashasvi Jaiswal is a special talent who plays freely. Both he and Shubman Gill are in the formative years of Test cricket, but I see them as future pillars and overseas stars for the team.”

Ashwin emphasized the need for both players to gain experience and address their shortcomings. He stated, “As they continue their Test journey, they need to encounter new experiences and identify areas for improvement. The raw material is there; it's clear that both are high-quality players.”

In addition to their performances against Bangladesh, Jaiswal and Gill also excelled in the previous series against England, with Jaiswal scoring 712 runs in nine innings, including two double centuries, while Gill contributed 452 runs, averaging 56.50 with two centuries and two fifties.

Both players aim to maintain their outstanding form in the upcoming series against New Zealand, starting October 16, followed by the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy from November 22.
