Xtra Time Web Desk: In a remarkable achievement, star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has eclipsed the legendary Anil Kumble's record to become India's most successful bowler in Test cricket on Asian soil during the second Test against Bangladesh. Ashwin reached this milestone by claiming the wicket of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the Kanpur Test, bringing his total to 420 wickets across the continent.

This achievement positions Ashwin as the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket in Asia, trailing only Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan, who tops the list with 612 wickets. Anil Kumble, another legendary Indian spinner, now sits in third place with 419 wickets. Noteworthy bowlers who follow include Rangana Herath with 354 wickets and Harbhajan Singh with 300.

Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh saw play halted due to bad light, with Bangladesh at 107 for 3. Mominul Haque's resilient innings provided Bangladesh with stability following early setbacks from Akash Deep, who took two wickets, while Ashwin contributed with one. Ashwin's breakthrough came as he ended a 51-run partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque early in the second session, which experienced a 15-minute delay due to rain after the first session.

With this historic achievement, Ashwin not only cements his legacy as one of India’s greatest bowlers but also continues to inspire the next generation of cricketers with his exceptional skill and relentless pursuit of excellence on the international stage.
