Xtra Time Web Desk: Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi echoed the sentiments of millions of Afghanistan cricket fans when he spoke to Rashid Khan over a video call and congratulated the team for making it to the semi-final of the men's T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday, June 25.

Muttaqi began his conversation with "Mubarak" (congratulations) as he sent a message to Rashid Khan right after Afghanistan's thrilling win over Bangladesh in their last Super 8 match at the Arnov Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent. Afghanistan secured one of their most memorable victories, reaching the semi-final of the men's T20 World Cup for the first time.

Afghanistan were on a giant-killing spree in the Caribbean as they defeated former finalists New Zealand in the group stage before pulling off a sensational win over Australia in the Super 8 match. The Afghanistan Cricket Board shared a video of the Taliban Foreign Minister speaking to Rashid Khan, who was at the ground after the thriller against Bangladesh.

While congratulating the team for their win over Bangladesh, Muttaqi also wished them more success. Afghanistan successfully defended a 115-run target in a rain-marred outing that went down to the wire. Afghanistan players celebrated the win in style, pulling off dance moves on the ground. Rashid Khan was leading the celebration in the team huddle while the players lifted head coach Jonathan Troot on their shoulders during the victory parade.

Afghanistan players also danced to the tunes of some chartbusters of their bowling coach, Dwayne Bravo, in the team bus. Back home, the streets in Nangarhar province in Afghanistan was filled with people celebrating Afghanistan's historic progression to the semi-finals. It was a day of huge celebrations for the Afghans as Rashid Khan's team did the unthinkable and joined England, South Africa and India in the last four of the T20 World Cup.
