Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian dressing room was filled with jubilation on Sunday following their commanding victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025 clash in Dubai. The team celebrated with their customary fielding medal ceremony, where coach T Dilip awarded a specially designed medal to the best fielder of the day. The lively atmosphere reflected India’s near-certain progression to the semi-finals of the eight-team tournament.

Former opener Shikhar Dhawan, an ambassador for the Champions Trophy 2025, made a surprise appearance at the ceremony. Dressed in a cream blazer, white shirt, and silver necklace, Dhawan entered the dressing room with his signature swagger, much to the delight of the players. Virat Kohli couldn’t contain his laughter as Dhawan performed his iconic thigh-five celebration, joined by Ravindra Jadeja.

Dhawan, a key member of India’s 2013 Champions Trophy-winning team, presented the fielding medal to Axar Patel. Axar earned the honor for his two crucial run-outs, including a direct hit to dismiss opener Imam-ul-Haq and his involvement in Haris Rauf’s dismissal. His efforts were instrumental in restricting Pakistan to 241.

Axar edged out contenders Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer to claim the medal. Fielding coach Dilip praised the team’s performance, comparing their precision to a Formula One pit crew.

"I think the way we cut the angles was excellent. The feedback from KL (wicketkeeper) was that the accuracy of the throws was amazing," Dilip said.

He highlighted India’s five direct hits against Pakistan, emphasizing the team’s quick decision-making.

"Good fielding units are like a Formula One pit crew. Why? Because they make split-second decisions without hesitation. We made quick decisions and got two run-outs at crucial moments in the match," he added.

India’s victory was powered by Virat Kohli’s 51st ODI century, as they chased down the target with 45 balls to spare. With this win, India are all but assured of a semi-final spot. They will next face New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday, aiming to continue their dominant run in the tournament.
