Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive ₹58 crore cash prize for the Indian cricket team following their triumphant campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India clinched their third Champions Trophy title by defeating Mitchell Santner's New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9. This marks India's third title in the tournament's history, following victories in 2002 and 2013.

BCCI praises India's dominance

Roger Binny, the BCCI President, expressed his pride in the team's achievement, stating, "Winning back-to-back ICC titles is special, and this reward recognises Team India’s dedication and excellence on the global stage. The cash award is a recognition of the hard work that everyone puts in behind the scenes. This was also our second ICC Trophy in 2025, following the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup triumph, and it highlights the strong cricketing ecosystem in place in our country."

Rajeev Shukla, BCCI's vice-president, lauded the players for their composure under pressure, saying, "This cash reward is a tribute to the outstanding performances delivered by the team throughout the tournament. The team has once again proved that Indian cricket is built on a strong foundation of skill, mental toughness, and a winning mentality."

India's path to glory

India's journey in the tournament began with a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh, thanks to Shubman Gill's eighth ODI century. A commanding win against Pakistan, powered by Virat Kohli’s 51st ODI hundred, secured their spot in the semi-finals.

India completed the group stage on top of the table with a victory over New Zealand, where Varun Chakravarthy's five-wicket haul and Shreyas Iyer's 79 ensured a comfortable finish.

In the semi-final, Kohli's crucial 84-run knock guided India past Australia, marking their third consecutive appearance in a Champions Trophy final after 2013 and 2017.

The final saw a gritty performance from the Indian side, with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring a pivotal 76 runs, leading India to a four-wicket victory. Shreyas Iyer emerged as the top scorer for India, amassing 243 runs at an average of 79.41. Mohammed Shami and Chakravarthy were the leading wicket-takers with nine dismissals each.

India's remarkable campaign not only secured silverware but also reaffirmed their dominance on the global stage, making 2025 a historic year for Indian cricket.
