East Bengal triumphed 2-1 over Mohun Bagan in the season's first Kolkata Derby at Yuva Bharati Krirangan. Kerala duo P.V. Vishnu and Jesin T.K. scored for East Bengal, while Suhail Bhat netted a late consolation for Mohun Bagan.

East Bengal's strategic brilliance, led by coach Bino George, outshone Mohun Bagan's lackluster performance. George's inclusion of senior players Debjit Majumdar, Hira Mondal, and P.V. Vishnu proved decisive. Vishnu's early pressure culminated in a 50th-minute goal, skillfully bypassing two defenders and scoring past goalkeeper Raja Burman.

Mohun Bagan struggled throughout, suffering their third winless match in the Kolkata League. Despite attacking efforts, frequent mispasses hindered their rhythm. Even after being reduced to ten men following Joseph Justin's red card, East Bengal maintained control. Mohun Bagan's Brijesh Giri missed a close chance, but Suhail Bhat managed a header in injury time, securing a consolation goal.
