Xtra Time Web Desk: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) addresses recent comments by former Head Coach Igor Stimac, clarifying the reasons behind his contract termination and ensuring accurate public record.

Stimac's allegations, aimed at discrediting the AIFF, do not reflect his five-year tenure, during which he received full support. The AIFF leadership, which took office in September 2022, extended Stimac's contract in October 2023, with specific instructions for a favorable termination clause that were not followed.

Stimac enjoyed autonomy in team selections, venue choices, and support staff appointments, with the AIFF meeting most of his demands. Despite logistical challenges, such as the loss of GPS vests during travel, AIFF ensured replacements were promptly provided.

AIFF tolerated several of Stimac's misdeeds to avoid disrupting FIFA World Cup preparations. Concerns over his coaching style and reliance on an astrologer led to internal disquiet among players. His misrepresentation of facts at the AFC National Coaches Conference and legal notice against AIFF further strained relations.

Stimac’s public claims about his health and AIFF’s role were misleading, highlighting his lack of responsibility. With the national team's performance declining, AIFF had no choice but to terminate Stimac’s contract, offering a three-month severance package. This decision was made to secure the future of Indian football, with a focus on the upcoming FIFA window in September 2024 and the hiring process for a new coach.

The AIFF is committed to moving forward and opening a new chapter for Indian football with the support of its stakeholders.
