Xtra Time Web Desk:  India's star Olympian, Manu Bhaker, fresh off her twin-bronze medal triumph at the Paris 2024 Olympics, appeared on the popular television show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). The shooting sensation, along with fellow Olympian Aman Sehrawat, who also secured a bronze medal in Paris, shared her journey and insights with host Amitabh Bachchan.

During the show, an interesting conversation unfolded about the shooting technique, particularly the reason behind the long pauses between shots. Amitabh Bachchan admitted that he had always wondered why shooters took so much time before firing again, until his son, Abhishek Bachchan, explained the science behind it.

"I used to be puzzled by the long gaps between shots. Abhishek told me it's all about controlling breathing and heart rate," Amitabh shared on the show. 

Manu Bhaker elaborated on this, shedding light on the critical role of breathing techniques in competitive shooting. She explained that controlling one's heart rate and calming anxiety are key to maintaining focus during high-pressure moments in competitions.

"People often think shooting is just about aiming and firing, but it's much more than that. In a match, our heart rate rises, and staying composed is crucial. To manage nerves, I rely on yoga, Surya Namaskar, meditation, and disciplined breathing exercises," Manu revealed.

She explained her specific technique: "I use a 4:8 breathing ratio—inhale for four seconds and exhale for eight. This helps to stabilize my heart rate, which is vital when anxiety causes shaking during aiming. Through consistent practice, this method helps me stay calm and focused under pressure."
