Xtra Time Web Desk: 2011 World Cup hero and Man of the Tournament Yuvraj Singh on Friday said that the entire team wanted to win the World Cup for the country and also for the master (Sachin Tendulkar). The left hander battling all adversaries scored 362 runs in 9 matches at a staggering average of 90.50 including a hundred and four half centuries.

In a video uploaded on his social media, Yuvraj looked back at the golden memories Dhoni and his men achieved at the Wankhede.

“It’s been 10 years when we won the last World Cup. Time gone by so quickly. The whole team wanted to win the World Cup so badly specially for Sachin because we all knew it was his last World Cup and we also wanted to win lift the World Cup in India as no other team has won it at their own backyard before.”

Sri Lanka had an upper hand with Mahela Jayawardene producing a perfectly paced hundred and Lasith Malinga striking early to reduce India to 31 for 2. But Gautam Gambhir anchored the innings with a resolute 97. Surprising everyone MS Dhoni walked out at No. 5 instead of Yuvraj Singh - who was later voted Man of the Tournament - and delivered an innings for the ages, seeing off the threat of Muttiah Muralitharan  and finishing proceedings majestically with a six clouted high over long-on to cue night-long celebrations all over Mumbai and India.

“It was very special for us and I can’t really put in words because few emotions cannot really be expressed. There was some couple of great individual performances specially the knocks played by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir. Virender Sehwag had a great opening partnership with Sachin. Zak (Zaheer) had a great tournament, picking 20 wickets and giving us those crucial breakthroughs.”

“I also made a humble contribution. Winning the World Cup is always a special memory for any cricketer, especially as a youngster you think about representing your country and to win the World Cup is eternal,” said Yuvraj.

He added, “I am very emotional and a great day for us to celebrate 10 years anniversary of us winning the World Cup. I don’t think anything can replace that in my cricketing career. We want to live the memory forever.”

Ten years back on this day in 2011, MS Dhoni led India created history at the Wankhede stadium by lifting the ICC Cricket World Cup for the second time. It took twenty eight years after Kapil Dev’s team won the Prudential Trophy at Lords. Dhoni and his boys broke a number of hoodoos in the Mumbai final: of home teams never having won the title, teams chasing having won only twice before, and century-makers in finals never having finished on the losing side.
