“Selectors will rethink if Rohit's fit” : BCCI President Sourav Ganguly
XtraTime Web Desk - The selectors of Indian cricket team few days back announced India's squad for their tour to Australia where Rohit Sharma's name was missing from all three formats of the game. BCCI said that Rohit is injured and his fitness will be closely monitored. However, Rohit was seen practicing in the nets of Mumbai Indians which raised several questions in the internet.
Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president on Tuesday gave an update on the current status between BCCI and Rohit Sharma. “With Rohit, we want him fit for Australia. At some stage if he is fit, I am sure the selectors will rethink his position”.
Rohit Sharma played his last game for Mumbai in the last month against Kings XI Punjab. Since then, Rohit Sharma is sidelined because of an hamstring injury and Kieron Pollard is leading Mumbai Indians ever since. When Sourav Ganguly was asked whether Rohit should drop himself from IPL or not, Ganguly said, “We haven't seen him playing”.
Just like Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma also suffered an injury and has been ruled out of IPL after that. Similar to Rohit, Ishant's name is also not there in the any of the squad and he will also be closely monitor and his name will only be included if he gets fit by then.
Ganguly gave an very interesting update on Ishant Sharma saying, “We are monitoring Ishant and Rohit. Ishant is not completely out. He will become a part of the Test series”.
Current status of both the players is that Rohit is practicing with his Mumbai Indians squad at Dubai while Ishant Sharma is currently on a rehab at his home city, Delhi. Ganguly confirmed that if the duo is fit, then they can be sent later to Australia for the test series at least. “They can be sent later. There are flights to Australia”.
Speaking about the entire tour to Australia, Ganguly said, “Australia in Australia is always tough. They will be a lot stronger with (Steve) Smith and (David) Warner back. Players like (Marnus) Labuschagne have become better,” Ganguly said. “It will be a good test for India, but they are capable of winning. It will be a good series”.
