Xtra Time Web Desk: The Punjab Government has decided to honour the Tokyo Olympics bronze winning Indian men’s hockey team player’s from the state in a unique way by renaming 7 schools after them. Manpreet Singh led Indian men’s hockey team did the nation proud by winning the bronze after 41 years at the Tokyo Olympics. The Government of Punjab had already announced a cash prize of 2.51 crore each.

The Education Ministerof the state Vijay Inder Singla on Sunday said that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had approved the renaming of government schools in honour of the Indian hockey players.

Singla revealed that the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Mithapur, Jalandhar has been named after hockey team captain Manpreet Singh.

Here are the few schools that has been renamed after the Tokyo Olympics bronze winning Indian men’s hockey team:

Manpreet Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Mithapur

Harmanpreet Singh GSSS, Timmowal.

Shamsher Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Attari

Rupinderpal Singh Government Middle School, Faridkot

Hardik Singh GSSS, Khusropur, Jalandhar

Gurjant Singh GSSS, Khalaihara, Amritsar

Simranjit Singh Government High School Chahal Kalan, Gurdaspur.

Earlier Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi announced a cash award of Rs 2.51 crore each for hockey player from the state.
