IPL 2024: Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the first CSK captain to score a century

Having endured a shaky start to the season, Gaikwad has regained his form and confidence, with two half-centuries in his last three outings. His captain's innings was the epitome of excellence, crafting a splendid century in just 56 balls, embellished with 12 fours and 3 sixes. Despite an early setback with the loss of Ajinkya Rahane in the first over, Gaikwad remained undeterred, launching an assault on the LSG pacers and finding the boundary with ease. His aggressive yet controlled approach saw him notch up his second-highest powerplay score in IPL history.

Ruturaj Gaikwad etched his name in the annals of Indian Premier League (IPL) history by becoming only the eighth captain to achieve a century. Gaikwad's blistering century, achieved in just 56 balls, not only secured a monumental victory for the Chennai Super Kings but also marked a historic milestone as the first century by a CSK captain in IPL history. His remarkable feat places him among the elite league of centurions in the current IPL season, showcasing his exceptional prowess with the bat.

During his innings, Gaikwad surpassed the previous record held by the legendary MS. Gaikwad, who is also the youngest centurion for CSK at 24 years and 244 days, which came against Rajasthan Royals in 2021 in Abu Dhabi.
