Xtra Time Web Desk: The window for the franchises to retain players for the VIVO Indian Premier League 2022 season closed on 30th November 2021. With a total salary cap of INR 90 crore available at the mega auction for each team, the eight franchises were eligible to retain up to 4 players with a maximum of 3 Indians, 2 overseas players and 2 uncapped Indians.

Each of the eight franchises used the Player Retention option with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) opting to retain 4 players each. Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have retained 3 players each while Punjab Kings (PBKS) have retained 2. The PBKS thus have the highest salary purse available with INR 72 crore while Delhi Capitals have least at INR 47.50 to be used at the mega auction.

Of the 27 retained players, 8 are overseas and 4 are uncapped Indians.

Mumbai Indians:

Mumbai Indians have retained Rohit Sharma (16 cr) , Jasprit Bumrah (12 cr), Suryakumar Yadav (8 cr) & Kieron Pollard (6 cr). The most successful franchise has released big names like Hardik Pandya, Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan and Trent Boult. They have a purse of 48 crores remaining ahead of IPL mega auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained Virat Kohli (15 cr), Glenn Maxwell (11 cr) & Md Siraj (7 cr). Among the notable releases are Yuzuvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel & Devdutt Padikkal. Bangalore has a purse of 57 crore remaining ahead of IPL mega auction.

Chennai Super Kings:

Chennai Super Kings have retained Ravindra Jadeja (16 cr), MS Dhoni (12 cr), Moeen Ali (8 cr) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 cr). CSK have released big names like Faf du Plessis, DJ Bravo, Shardul Thakur & Ambati Rayudu. Chennai have a purse worth 48 crores remaining.

Punjab Kings have retained Mayank Agarwal (14 cr) & Arshdeeep Singh (4 cr). PBKS have released big names like KL Rahul, Chris Gayle & Mohammed Shami. Punjab have a purse worth 72 crore remaining.
