IND vs WI 2nd Test: Kohli & Jadeja unbeaten partnership see India end Day 1 on a strong position
Xtra Time Web Desk: It was yet another dominating day for India in the ongoing test series against West Indies. The visitors have posted 288/4 at stumps on Day 1 of the second test at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad withVirat Kohli (batting on 87) and Ravindra Jadeja (batting at 36) putting on a 100-run partnership after India lost 4 wickets before Tea on Thursday.
Earlier, West Indies dominated the second session as they sent back Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane as both teams headed for Tea. India had dominated the first session with fifties from Rohit and Jaiswal but West Indies put on the brakes in the next one.
The first session saw a brilliant start by Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who ended at 121-0 in 26 overs, with both making half-centuries.
In the second session, the Windies fought back hard, and Jaiswal lost his wicket while going after a full delivery outside off, giving the hosts a crucial breakthrough. Shubman Gill also failed, scoring just 10 runs, continuing his poor form at No. 3.
Virat Kohli walked in to join captain Rohit Sharma, but Sharma fell soon after to a good delivery by Jomel Warrican, leaving India at 34-3 in the second session. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane didn't stay long either, getting dismissed by Shannon Gabriel, further denting India's progress.
However, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja took control in the final session, forming a partnership of 106 runs for the fifth wicket and frustrating the West Indies' hopes of a comeback. Kohli scored 69 runs from 99 balls during the partnership, while Jadeja played a supporting role, scoring 36 from 84 balls.
By the end of the day, India reached a stable position at 288/4, thanks to Kohli and Jadeja's resilient performance. The partnership proved to be crucial in stabilizing India's innings after the setback in the second session, setting them up for a strong position going into Day 2.
