Hockey World Cup 2023: India knocked out after losing to New Zealand 4-5 in penalty shootout
Xtra Time Web Desk: India hockey team were knocked out of the Hockey World Cup 2023 as they lost 4-5 to New Zealand in crossover match at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday. The result after regulation time was 3-3. New Zealand will now face Belgium in the Quarter Finals.
India, ranked sixth in the world, produced a below-par performance, allowing New Zealand to claw back into the match after taking a 2-0 lead in the first half.
For India Lalit Upadhyay (17th minute), Sukhjeet Singh (24th) and Varun Kumar (40th) were on scoresheet. The goal-scorers for New Zealand were Sam Lane (28th) and two penalty-corner conversions by Kane Russell (43rd) and Sean Findlay (49th).
