Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday. Hardik twisted his ankle after bowling just three deliveries in the ninth over of the Bangladesh innings. He limped off the field along with physio Kamlesh.

Hardik was immediately rushed to a local hospital for scan and the reports are awaited. The Indian team management might have to wait for a day to get a clear picture on Hardik’s injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had issued a statement that Hardik had to be taken to a hospital for scan. It is learnt that his reports have been sent to Mumbai for assessment by BCCI medical team

After undergoing scans, Hardik did return to the ground. It is understood that he would have batted if needed, although it wasn't necessary as India comfortably chased down the 257-run target set by Bangladesh, winning the match by seven wickets.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma downplayed the severity of the injury, saying, "He pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry about. We'll see how he feels tomorrow morning and then plan how to go forward."

There is a fair chance for the team management to rest Hardik for the game against BlackCaps in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.
