Delhi Police register two FIRs against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan over sexual harassment allegations
Xtra Time Web Desk: The Delhi Police on Friday registered two FIRs against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan over sexual harassment allegations levelled by several women wrestlers. The FIRs have been registered at Connaught Place police station
The first FIR pertains to allegations levelled by a minor victim which has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning outraging of modesty etc.
The second FIR has been registered for carrying out comprehensive investigations into the complaints tendered by other adult complainants under relevant sections pertaining to outraging of modesty.
The FIR have been lodged after Supreme Court of India issued notices to the Delhi government and others, saying these are "serious allegations" requiring its consideration.
The top wrestlers in the country such as Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik have been protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and asserted that they won't leave the protest site at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the WFI president is arrested.
On Friday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Delhi Police, told a bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha that the FIR in the matter has been registered.
