The Buchi Babu tournament, one of the oldest four-day competitions in the country, will witness participation from 12 teams, including two from the host state—Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI and TNCA President's XI. The tournament spans across four venues in Tamil Nadu, from August 15 to September 11.

Iyer's participation follows his recent comeback to the Indian squad during the ODI series in Sri Lanka. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed Iyer's inclusion in the squad, with MCA joint secretary Deepak Patil stating, "Shreyas Iyer will play for Mumbai at the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. He will be playing against Jammu & Kashmir from 27th August in Coimbatore."

The tournament's schedule is packed, with 12 teams competing, including notable sides like Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Bengal, and Hyderabad. The competition will be fierce, with Mumbai taking on formidable opponents like TNCA XI and TNCA President's XI in the later stages.
