Xtra Time Web Desk: Cricket legend Brian Lara has expressed his confidence in young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of India’s upcoming five-match Test series against Australia later this year. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 promises to be an exciting contest, with both teams delivering outstanding performances in recent years. India, having won the last two Test series on Australian soil, will aim for a historic third consecutive triumph.

Jaiswal, who has impressed in the West Indies, South Africa, and at home in India, is expected to play a key role for the Indian National Cricket Team in the highly anticipated series. The left-hander has made a sensational start to his Test career, becoming a crucial part of India's dominant Test performances. His consistency has drawn comparisons to Indian batting greats, with Jaiswal recently surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s record for the most runs scored by an Indian in his first 10 Test matches.

While Australia will present a new challenge for Jaiswal, Lara believes that the young batter has the ability to succeed in all conditions. Speaking on the sidelines of the International Masters League, Lara said, “I think he’s got the ability to play in any condition. I saw him in the Caribbean. The pitches in Australia are slightly different, but if you take that sort of strength that you have, you’re going to play good cricket in any conditions. So, I expect to see him do well."

Lara also praised Jaiswal’s technique, stating that his success in Australia will depend more on his mental preparation than technical adjustments. "I don’t think there’s much that he has to do technically. I just think it’s all about the mental thing. Travelling away from home and playing against Australia on their shores is a different beast. But I believe that the Indian team that I’ve seen going to Australia over the last couple of occasions are very capable of winning," Lara added.
