Xtra Time Web Desk: In a concerning development for Indian cricket fans, captain Jasprit Bumrah left the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during Day 2 of the ongoing Test match against Australia on Saturday, January 4. Bumrah, who had bowled eight overs in the morning session, exited the field shortly after play resumed following the lunch break. The Indian skipper’s absence has raised questions about his fitness and availability for the remainder of the match.

Before his departure, Bumrah achieved a significant milestone by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne in the seventh over of Australia’s innings. This wicket allowed him to break Bishen Singh Bedi’s 46-year-old record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a single series in Australia, taking his tally to 32 wickets. India appeared to be in control at the time, but the tide shifted after Bumrah left the field.

Initially, Bumrah’s exit did not seem serious, as he was seen in his training kit rather than his whites. However, it was later revealed by commentators, including Ravi Shastri, that the Indian pacer had been taken to a nearby medical facility for scans after experiencing back pain. "The big news from the SCG is that the mainstay of the Indian bowling attack has left the ground. Obviously, he’s going to see some doctors and for some scans. We should know more soon," Shastri said during the broadcast.

This is not the first injury concern for Bumrah during the series. The pacer had a brief scare during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide but recovered quickly. His exceptional performances throughout the series have been instrumental in India’s campaign, with his 32 wickets putting him well ahead of the rest.

Following Bumrah’s departure, Australia capitalized on the situation, with Beau Webster scoring his maiden Test fifty. India managed to strike back with Prasidh Krishna dismissing Alex Carey, but Australia’s momentum on Day 2 has left the match delicately poised.
