BGT 2024-25: ‘Flat track bully, overweight’, ex Proteas batter’s harsh word for Rohit Sharma
Xtra Time Web Desk: Rohit Sharma’s recent run of poor form has attracted sharp criticism from former South African cricketer Daryll Cullinan, who has labeled the Indian skipper as "overweight" and a "flat track bully." The remarks come as Sharma continues to struggle in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
After demoting himself to No. 6 for the second Test in Adelaide, Sharma’s troubles persisted, as he managed only 9 runs in the pink-ball Test. His lack of runs has been a consistent issue, with only one Test fifty since early 2024, and failing to reach double figures in eight of his last 12 innings. The ongoing slump has led to questions about his future in Test cricket, with Sharma approaching 38 years of age.

Cullinan, known for his candid views, questioned Sharma's fitness level, suggesting that he is no longer suited for the demanding nature of long-format cricket. "Look at Rohit, then at Virat. Notice the difference in their physical condition. Rohit is overweight, and not a long-term cricketer anymore," Cullinan told InsideSport. He added that Sharma is not in the physical shape required for a multi-match Test series.
Sharma’s recent form has also taken a toll on his standing in the ICC Test rankings. After a disappointing home season and struggles in Adelaide, he dropped to 31st place, slipping out of the top 30. His current rating of 595 is a stark contrast to the 813 rating he achieved after his match-winning hundred at the Oval in 2021.
