Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to implement significant changes in the domestic cricket structure for the upcoming 2024-25 season. These changes include dividing the Ranji Trophy schedule into two parts and eliminating the toss in the C.K. Nayudu Trophy, an under-23 men's competition.

For the Ranji Trophy, the tournament will be split into two segments. The first part will start in mid-October after the Irani Cup, featuring the initial five league matches with a minimum four-day gap between each game. The second part, including the last two league rounds and the knockout stages, will occur after the white-ball tournaments. This scheduling aims to ensure matches in northern India are held before the peak winter to avoid fog disruptions.

In the C.K. Nayudu Trophy, the traditional coin toss will be removed, with the visiting team choosing whether to bat or bowl first. This change aims to prevent home teams from gaining an unfair advantage through pitch manipulation. Additionally, the Duleep Trophy will move away from the zonal format to feature four teams selected by national selectors. A revised points system will also be introduced in the C.K. Nayudu Trophy to encourage balanced performances.

These reforms, designed to address concerns raised by captains and coaches, are awaiting approval by the BCCI's Apex Council. They aim to enhance the quality of cricket and create a more level playing field across competitions.

"The toss will be eliminated for the CK Nayudu Trophy matches. Instead, the visiting team will have the right to choose whether to bat or bowl first, " Jay Shah said.

"The CK Nayudu Trophy will implement a new points system aimed at promoting balanced performances. This includes awarding points for batting and bowling performances in the first innings, in addition to points for the first innings lead or outright win, he further said before adding:

"A review will be conducted at the end of the season to assess the effectiveness of the new points system, with a decision on whether to implement it in the Ranji Trophy for the following season."
