Xtra Time Web Desk: In Chennai, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja salvaged India’s innings in the first Test against Bangladesh. The top and middle order of the Indian team fell quickly under the pressure from Bangladesh's pace bowlers in the morning session. Ashwin and Jadeja steadied the innings after that. At the end of the first day’s play, Sourav Ganguly praised their innings and also commended Bangladesh’s pace attack.

On social media after the first day’s play, Sourav wrote, “Ashwin and Jadeja played superb innings. Not only did they score big runs, but their style of play was of very high quality.” He also praised the Bangladeshi pacers, noting, “Bangladesh’s pace attack is very good. It’s no surprise that they have beaten Pakistan on their home ground.”

Before the Test series in Chennai began, Sourav had mentioned that it would not be an easy series for India. He felt that this Bangladesh team was stronger than before and would come in with a lot of confidence after their victory over Pakistan on their home ground. That was evident on the first morning when India found themselves under pressure at 144 for 6. Ashwin and Jadeja then formed a 195-run partnership, lifting the team. Sourav praised them for their performance at the end of the day.

India initially struggled in their innings. Rohit Sharma and his team were unable to handle Hasan Mahmud’s deliveries. Rohit, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli were dismissed one after another. Although Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant formed a partnership for the fourth wicket, it didn’t last long. Pant was dismissed by Mahmud, and Yashasvi was out after scoring a half-century. Lokesh Rahul also failed to score runs. India had lost six wickets for 144 runs, and coach Gautam Gambhir was seen looking disappointed in the dressing room.

India’s spin-all-rounder duo brought a smile to his face. Despite losing six wickets, Ashwin and Jadeja were aggressive from the start, playing big shots and putting pressure on Bangladesh. They managed to hold on until the end of the day. Ashwin scored 102 off 112 balls, marking his sixth Test century with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Jadeja was unbeaten on 86 off 117 balls, also hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes, and has a chance to reach a century on the second day.
