La Liga: Real Madrid beat Alaves 2-0, moves within two wins away from title

XtraTime Web Desk: Karim Benzema scored a goal and played an assist as Real Madrid comfortably cruised past Alaves 2-0 in a La Liga fixture at the Alfredo Di Stefano on Friday night. Marco Asensio scored the other goal for Real. The win took Zinedine Zidane’s side within two wins from winning the La Liga title. Real Madrid is now on 80 points while another title aspirants Barcelona is on 76.

The hosts took an early lead through Karim Benzema as he converted from a spot kick in the 11th minute. The Los Blancos was awarded a penalty after Ferland Mendy was challenged clumsily by Ximo Navarro on the edge of the box. The hosts doubled their lead in the 50th minute as a deft through from Rodrigo found Benzema who followed it to Asensio to slot it home. The goal was initially disallowed for off-side. But a VAR review showed that the Asensio was on side.

The victory leaves Real Madrid requiring just five points from securing the La Liga. In fact the side from Madrid could seal the title on Monday if Barcelona fails to beat Real Valladolid on Saturday. Real would then need to win against Granada on Monday.
