football-1 Kolkata: End of an era. Sumit Ghosh, the man who was commonly known as "Captain Ghosh" in Kolkata Maidan, has breathed his last today at the age of 85. The man who served The Indian Football Association (IFA) for the last 15 years, had beenĀ  suffering from acute physical ailments.
Mr.Ghosh played for clubs like Aryan, Khidirpore, Howrah Union and Eastern Railway as a goalkeeper. It was also heard that during his tenure at Aryan, he sacrificed his position to give opportunities to another famous goalkeeper Sanath Seth who was then the second goalkeeper of the side.
He also played Santosh Trophy for Bengal in 1940's. IFA Secretary Utpal Ganguly expressed deep condolences on his death. The Nursery Football League which got kicked off today at the Barasat Stadium also observed a minute of silence to show respect to his departed soul.
