Xtra Time Web Desk: In a thrilling Kolkata derby East Bengal FC comprehensively outplayed arch rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant 3-1 to secure a spot in the Kalinga Super Cup semi-final on Friday. The clash was crucial for both teams, with East Bengal needing at least a draw to qualify for semis and Mohun Bagan requiring a win.

Despite missing seven key Indian players participating in the AFC Asian Cup, Mohun Bagan took the lead in the 19th minute through a cheeky finish from Hector Yuste. However, East Bengal responded quickly, as skipper Cleiton Silva netted the equalizer in the 24th minute. A pivotal moment came when Dimitri Petratos missed a penalty for Mohun Bagan just before halftime.

In the second half, Nandha Sekar put East Bengal ahead with a neat finish in the 63rd minute. Despite efforts from Mohun Bagan, they couldn't break through East Bengal's defense. Cleiton Silva sealed the victory with another solid finish in the 80th minute, securing a 3-1 win for East Bengal.

With this victory, East Bengal FC advanced to the semi-final with 9 points from three games, while Mohun Bagan was eliminated from the competition. East Bengal now eye a potential championship in the Kalinga Super Cup and aim to qualify for the AFC 2023-24 season's ACL 2 Preliminary Stage.
