Regarded as one of the most stylish batsman ever played for the country before the likes of Mohammed Azharuddin and VVS Laxman, Vishy is suffering from weight gain. The 68 year old gentleman cricketer is almost 100 kilos weight, which has forced him to stay away from his favourite golf courses in the city. However, the love and passion for the game brought him (Vishwanath) to the Chinnaswamy Stadium today. The former cricketer was seated at the Diamond Box. On hearing that Vishy is around, Kapil Dev did not waste any time to come rushing from the commentary box to meet him. The Haryana Hurricane was seen watching the proceedings with Vishwanath from the press box. Few days back when Azharuddin came to know that Gundappa Vishwanath is not well, he immediately called him and wanted to know whether he can do anything for him or not. Vishy was prompt to reply that he is okay. The similar question was asked by Kapil Dev also and Vishwanath assured him (Kapil) he will definitely try to recover fast. The stylish Karnataka batsman is not well for quite some time now. When the news spread like wild fire that every body’s favourite Vishy is at the ground, all wanted to meet him. In spite of being unwell, the sheer love of the game could not stop him from coming to the Chinnaswamy stadium. Seated in the Diamond Box, which is just adjacent to the Indian dressing room , Vishy got upset to see the batting debacle by Virat and his boys again. “Length is important in cricket, for the bowler as well for a batsman. And in this series Aussies are way ahead than the Indian team as far as the length is concerned. Be it a batsman or a bowler, you have to judge it nicely. And the cricket brain will immediately inform you to follow these lines,” stops Vishy. A lot of people were asking him about the secrets of the success against spin bowling. Jokingly he replies, “I have forgotten that.” Vishy is spending his times these days at home. His only son Daivik, a keen cricket follower plays cricket for the U’23 Karnataka team but concentrates more for his final year graduation in law. His wife Kabita is at the moment in Mumbai to spent time with her ailing mother. Vishy assures all his well wishers that he will to go back to the golf course soon which, he feels will give him the much needed energy to lose extra fat.
