Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022 due to stress fracture

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a huge blow for the Indian team, pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, starting from October 16, with a stress fracture.

Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 held in Dubai as well due to a back injury. He did return after a break for the recently concluded T20I series against Australia. He played two matches in the series in Nagpur and Hyderabad.

The fast bowler complained about a back pain as missed the first T20I in Trivandrum. In fact, he did not travel with the team to Trivandrum. He is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. But given his recurring back injury, the decision makers are unwilling to take chances with the fitness of one of their key players during a World Cup.

With Bumrah now being ruled out, there is a big chance for Mohammed Shami, originally named as a standby, to replace him. However, Shami was not a part of the T20Is against Australia and South Africa as he did not recover from Covid-19 in time. Another possibility will be to include Deepak Chahar in the main squad as he is also in stand-by.

Bumrah’s injury is definitely a huge setback for the Indian team ahead of the mega event.
