Bumrah, who has been in terrific form in the ongoing test series, having picked 17 wickets at an impressive average of 13.64 will be rested as part of workload management. Bumrah has already delivered a substantial 80.5 overs in the three tests so far.
The move echoes the pattern observed earlier in the series when Mohammed Siraj was rested for the second Test in Visakhapatnam. The team management’s deliberations on whether to seek a replacement for Bumrah are yet to be disclosed. Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar, released from the third Test to participate in a Ranji game for Bengal, is set to rejoin the squad in Ranchi. Adding to the seam bowling options is Akash Deep, a 27-year-old Bengal seamer, who earned his maiden call-up to the squad ahead of the Rajkot Test.
