To address the void left by the injured duo, the selection committee made strategic additions to the squad. Talented batter from Mumbai Sarfaraz Khan, Uttar Pradesh left arm spinner Saurabh Kumar, and off-spinner Washington Sundar were brought in, all of whom had showcased their prowess in the ongoing series against England Lions as part of the India A side.

Sarfaraz Khan’s recent dazzling knock of 161 runs, featuring 18 fours and 5 sixes, added a much-needed spark to the squad. Saurabh Kumar, contributing significantly with a fifer in the second innings of the unofficial Test, further strengthened India’s prospects. The team hoped these reinforcements would fortify their lineup as they geared up for the crucial second Test starting on February 2.
