Xtra Time Web Desk: Rishabh Pant is turning out to be quite a thinking cricketer with every outing. The wicket keeper has matured leaps and bounds in the last one and half years. Pant’s batting has always been his strength but his wicket keeping has also improved considerably in recent times. But another aspect of his cricket was seen on Day 5 of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship Final at the Ageas Bowl. It was Pant’s valuable suggestion from behind the wickets.

New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee was playing the long handle, going after the Indian bowlers towards the end of the first innings. He hit a six off Ravindra Jadeja’s first ball of the 99th over that he bowled. It was a short ball and he immediately rocketed on to his back foot to pull the ball towards the long on boundary. He was looking dangerous on 30*. It was during this time Pant was heard suggesting Jadeja to change his line and bowl like what he did to Collin de Grandhomme.

‘Jaddu bhai, jo Grandhomme ko daala tha, wahi daalna padega’, Pant was heard on the stump microphone.

Jadeja duly obliged as he bowled a faster one aimed at his legs. The ball brushed Southee’s pads and crashed on to the stumps, as New Zealand were bowled out for 249 runs, giving them only a slender lead of 32 runs.
