“It’s a big setback”: Shardul Thakur on not getting selected for T20 World Cup squad

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India medium pacer Shardul Thakur on Saturday said it was a ‘big setback’ for him not getting selected for the T20 World Cup squad. The cricketer from Mumbai feels he has ‘lot of cricket’ left in him and will work even harder to stake a claim back in the side.

Shardul has been a regular in T20 format for India during the time Hardik Pandya was undergoing his rehabilitation program. But with Hardik making a stunning return from the break, it has pushed Shardul back.

“Of course, it’s a big setback. Every player dreams to play in the World Cup, not just play, but win it as well,” Thakur said on the eve of the second ODI against South Africa in Ranchi.

According to Shardul, “It’s okay I’m not selected this time. But there’s still a lot of cricket left and also there’s the ODI World Cup next year. My focus will be to do well in whatever matches I play and make winning contributions.”

Shardul will be looking to put up a good all-round show in the remaining two ODIs against Proteas. The hosts are trailing in the three match ODI series 1-2 with the second match to be played at the JSCA Stdium in Ranchi on Sunday.
