Xtra Time Web Desk : Former Team India opener Gautam Gambhir has stated that Rohit Sharma absence from the Test series against South Africa is going to be a massive blow for the team. BCCI on Monday announced that the Team India Test Vice Captain would miss the Proteas series due to an injury after which Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal was roped into the team as his replacement.

Speaking to ANI about the above matter, Gambhir said, “It’s a big blow for India and the way he batted in England, he would have like to go, South Africa, as he wouldn’t want to miss a Test while being in good form. He was just appointed as a vice-captain so it’s a massive blow,”

Also speaking about the youngsters getting an opportunity, he added, “Great opportunity for the youngster to pick up this opportunity and make the country proud.”

Team India will play their opening Test match of the much anticipated series from 26th December in Centurion before travelling to Johannesburg and Cape Town for the final two matches.
