Xtra Time Web Desk: Odisha FC, plying their trade in the Indian Super League, have announced that Spanish footballing legend David Villa will be joining them to spearhead global footballing operations at their club. “Former OFC Head Coach, Josep Gombau and Victor Onate are also a part of the club’s Technical Football Committee along with David Villa”, the club added in a follow-up tweet.
Villa’s move to Odisha FC is seen as a coup of sorts by many, and as the appointment of the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid Striker, who is also the highest goal-scorer for the Spanish National Team was announced, many heads were turned. Odisha FC didn’t have the best of campaigns last time out, finishing bottom of the ISL, and will be looking to better their placement this time around. Villa is a high-profile addition to their global footballing operations team for sure, and his actual role in elevating the club remains to be seen.
