ISL 2022-23: ATK Mohun Bagan signs Melbourne Victory defender Brendon Hamill

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a bid to strengthen the team’s defense, ‘A’ league star footballer Brendon Hamill was signed by ATK Mohun Bagan on Thursday. Hamil has signed as an Asian quota footballer. He was part of last season’s Australian League runners-up side Melbourne Victory.

ATK Mohun Bagan coach Juan Ferrando was looking for a defender. With Hamil’s inclusion the defence will be definitely bolstered. Brendon’s success in the South Korean League and the Australian League will no doubt release the tension for the Spanish coach.

The biggest strength of Hamill is he is equally adept at handling defence as well as playing attacking football. He is a good passer as well. He has scored three goals in the A league last season

In 2009 Hamill was called up to the Australian U-20 squad for the 2010 AFC U-19 Championship qualification as a replacement for the injured Trent Sainsbury. On 7 March 2011 he was selected to represent the Australia Olympic football team in an Asian Olympic Qualifier match against Iraq

Talking about the new signing, ATK Mohun Bagan Coach Juan Ferrando said, “His (Hamil) inclusion in the team will strengthen our defence. I have seen him play in the Australian League. His experience will enrich the team.”

Brendon Hamill said, “From the information I have learned about Indian football, this club has a huge football history. The tradition of green maroon jersey enriches Indian football. Even though there was an offer from another club, that is what attracted me. Come to India. I am looking forward to bring success and trophies to this traditional club. I heard. Kolkata is the city of football. Millions of supporters of this club. I want to bring joy to the Mariners.”
