ISL 2021-22 : SC East Bengal earns a fighting 0-0 draw against defending champions Mumbai City FC
Xtra Time Web Desk : It was a David vs Goliath clash in the Indian Super League as SC East Bengal clashed against defending champions Mumbai City FC to set up an end to end thrilling clash. Despite Mumbai being the unquestionable favourites, Des Buckingham's team were not able to score a single goal against the Red and Gold which led to the match ending at a 0-0 scoreline.
From the start of the first half itself, the Islanders had more possession of the ball as they played a lot of passes and created lots of chances. But on the other hand, the East Bengal defence under the leadership of Adil Khan was as stubborn as they could be, as they didn't allow their opponents to score once.
As the match went on, Mumbai kept on hitting shots after shots only to see them stopped by the reenergized Torchbearers' under their interim coach Renedy Singh. Despite Joyner being substituted, his replacement Ankit Mukherjee put up a brilliant show alongside youngsters like Amarjit Singh Kiyam and Hira Mondal.
Despite the match being a brilliant one, the standard of referring in this match was surely not up to the mark. The referee didn't give Mumbai City FC a deserving penalty alongside not giving deserving corners to both the Teams.
SC East Bengal will play their next match of the season on January 11 against Jamshedpur FC.
