Xtra Time Web Desk: Rohit Sharma’s banter on the stump mic created quite a buzz during the India-England Test series on home turf, and once more, the former Mumbai Indians skipper found himself in the microphone’s spotlight during the IPL 2024 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

In the final overs, Dinesh Karthik unleashed a flurry of strokes against MI’s bowlers, prompting Rohit to playfully jest with the RCB batsman while stationed at first slip.

Karthik’s explosive knock of 53 not out off just 23 deliveries provided the much-needed impetus for RCB towards the end of their innings, propelling them to a solid total of 196/8 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

“Shabash DK, World Cup khelna hain abhi,” Rohit was heard saying referring to his remark to the upcoming T20 World Cup schduled to held in USA and West Indies, later this year.

Watching from the opposite end with his teammates, Karthik stylishly concluded his innings by smacking Akash Madhwal for two sixes and a four in consecutive deliveries, fetching 19 runs from the final over. Completing his fifty off 22 balls, Karthik showcased his prowess with five boundaries and four sixes, executing the finisher’s role with finesse as RCB narrowly missed the 200-run mark.

Earlier, Rohit emphasized that his chatter isn’t intentional, attributing it to his strategic placement in the slip cordon as the national team captain to assess DRS situations. Consequently, his conversations with fielders inadvertently get picked up by the microphone.

‘I don’t have any particular catchphrase, and it’s not something I do intentionally. As captain, I stand in the slips to get a better view of the field and analyze DRS scenarios. So, I end up communicating with the fielders, and it gets captured,’ Rohit explained.
